These days, recruiters have changed their way and medium of recruiting. They don’t work by the traditional, known ways. Instead, they have started recruiting people from Social Media platforms. It is quite a revolutionary method and has been helpful, till now, in getting creative individuals aboard.
Social Media Recruitment, also known as social hiring or social recruitment refers to recruiting candidates by using social platforms as talent databases or for advertising. It’s about engaging with users and using social media tools to source and recruit talent. It generally uses social media profiles, blogs, social networking sites, and other Internet sites to find clients and also information on candidates. It also uses social media to advertise jobs either through Human Resource managers, social media influencers, or through crowdsourcing where job seekers and other people share job openings within their online social networks. The effectiveness of this way of recruiting is not exactly easy to determine but it does not mean that social media recruiting is not a successful, evolving medium of recruitment.
Social Media Recruitment can give recruiters access to a lot of people. They just need to have accounts on all the social media platforms that the people are currently frequenting and are most active on, like – Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc… If not have accounts, recruiters can easily take help from Social Media Influencers to promote their company. Having a website or a page on a few or all of these sites is also an advisable idea. Hiring through Social Media is a completely different process as compared to the traditional way of hiring. For once, it is less vague and helps in letting recruiters see not only what candidates want them to see through their resume, but also things that are normally left unsaid. Going through any potential candidates’ social media gives recruiters an idea of the candidate’s general behaviour and personality.
While hiring through social media, there are a few things that should be taken into consideration. As a recruiter, it is extremely necessary to be looking where the most qualified and talented candidates for employees are. While doing so, it is important for recruiters to hold conversations regarding their company and also participate in the right conversations. To gain candidates for jobs, it is advisable to mention the working environment and culture of your company and provide adequate information about the company. After getting a few job applications, look through the potential employee’s social media – what he / she shares, comments on, believes in, follows, etc… It is also advisable to see whether the employee is truly suited in the environment of your company. An employee may be perfect according to the requirements of the job but if he / she cannot adjust to the work environment, then it isn’t at all a good idea to hire him / her. With the help of social media recruiting, it becomes easy to reach passive candidates who otherwise elude job announcements. It also helps in showing the recruiters the talent and passion of a candidate that a boring resume cannot throw light upon.
